Winners of the Thailand Green Awards 2011

Banyan Tree Phuket is the overall winner of the Thailand Green Awards 2011

The Tourism Authority of Thailand was once again honoured to have Her Royal Highness Princess of Thailand Ubolratana kindly present the Awards at a prestigious ceremony at the Thailand stand at World Travel Market, Tuesday 8th November.

Declared Overall Winner, and also winner of Best Large Hotel category, was Banyan Tree Phuket (award collected by Bronwen Batey)

"Banyan Tree Phuket offers an impressive scale and range of achievement in both environmental conservation and community engagement" said Justin Francis, Managing Director of responsibletravel.com and organiser of the Thailand Green UK Travel Awards Judging process.

"The 173-villa property exceeded its target of planting 10,000 trees by over 2,000 as part of its 'greening communities' reforestation project, provides education scholarships for 6 children, funded the repair of 58 boats for local fishermen after the tsunami, supported the needs of 150 community members by purchasing a Braille embosser, and supports local artists through its Gallery programme."
